Welcome from the Director
"Welcome to the School of Human Ecology!
Human Ecology is defined as "the study of the physical, cultural, economic, social, and aesthetic environment that surrounds human beings from birth to death.” Our School is an interdisciplinary academic program that is action oriented to solve many of the problems that impact daily living. Through the research mission, our faculty uses the “team approach,” partnering with both undergraduate and graduate students to discover new knowledge that will impact societal needs. Through our teaching mission, students learn the theories and practical aspects of the discipline with a focus on problem solving and communication skills. Through our outreach mission, our faculty and students impact the lives of the citizens of Louisiana through the AgCenter’s Extension Programs in Nutrition and Health, Parenting and Child Care, and Family Financial Management.
Our school has three divisions: Family, Child and Consumer Sciences, Human Nutrition and Food, and Textiles, Apparel and Merchandising. You are invited to explore our division web sites to learn more about the dynamic activities, exciting curriculum, and distinguished faculty credentials of each unit."
