Child Development Laboratory (LSU Lab Preschool)
The LSU Child Development Laboratory Preschool is located in the School of Human Ecology on Tower Drive. The program serves 20 children ages three and four in the part-time preschool program, which operates Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The LSU Lab Preschool is not only a learning environment for young children, but it also serves as a laboratory for undergraduate and graduate students studying early childhood education and child development.

LSU Textile and Costume Museum
The Textile & Costume Museum is a part of the LSU School of Human Ecology and a component of the Louisiana State Museum of Natural History. Its collections are broad in scope and include prehistoric and ethnic textiles and costumes as well as contemporary high fashions and high-tech textiles. The museum's gallery was established in 1992 with a grant from the Louisiana State Board of Regents and is the only gallery of its kind in the state. As Louisiana's preeminent institution for the preservation, collection, and research of textile artifacts, the museum preserves a vital part of history and promotes the understanding and enjoyment of diverse textile traditions.

Computer-Assisted-Design Laboratory
The Computer-Assisted-Design Laboratory, established in 1989, provides research and instructional opportunities for students and faculty. It also provides for cooperative research and development with the textiles and apparel industries. The laboratory includes seventeen computer workstations, a plotter, scanner, and networked color printer. The Laboratory is primarily used by TAM majors who are learning and refining skills in computerized apparel design and fashion illustration and promotion, color theory, patternmaking, grading, and marking.

HUEC Computer Lab
The HUEC Computer Lab is equipped with twenty state of the art computer workstations. The lab is also equipped with multimedia capabilities to assist with the instruction of departmental software. The software installed on the computers ranges from nutritional and diet analysis software such as Computrition, Nutritionist Pro, and Food Processor, to statistical software including SAS and SPSS. The lab is open to all Human Ecology undergraduate and graduate students.

Textile Laboratory
The Textile Laboratory facilities include two high-tech labs. The Textile Properties Laboratory is equipped with standard and specialized textile equipment available in two textile wet laboratories, a conditioning room, and a teaching laboratory in the Human Ecology building. The four instruments of the Kawabata Evaluation System (KES) are housed in the conditioning room. Division faculty cooperating with colleagues in other units have access to the equipment for polymer processing, analysis, and electron microscopy.

The Textile Processing Laboratory was created with the support of research funding from the Louisiana Board of Regents, USDA, Louisiana Agricultural Experiment Station, and other enterprises. The Textile Processing Laboratory has been equipped with a carding machine, needle-punching machine, spinning frame, narrow loom, and circular knitting machine. These facilities, housed in Harry D. Wilson and the Human Ecology building, enable lab-scale experiments with innovative procedures for processing agricultural waste materials into value-added textile products.

Nutrition Research Lab
The 1730 sq ft main laboratory located on the fourth floor in the Life Sciences Building includes a diet mixing room, student and research office space, and the main laboratory. The 250 sq ft, fully equipped diet mixing room allows for preparation of custom research diets. The 1330 sq ft laboratory lab space includes 320 sq ft of working counter space, two built-in ventilated hoods, and 6 sinks with deionized water taps. Equipment available includes a peripheral dual-energy x-ray absorptiometer, muffle furnace, water distiller, ultra pure water deionizer, ultra-low freezer, UV/VIS spectrophotometer, analytical balances, swing bucket centrifuge, bomb calorimeter, freeze dryer, and basic laboratory supplies and equipment. Additional office space with computer access is available for undergraduates and research associates. The space allows easy access to the animal vivarium located on the sixth floor. Animal related research is conducted in this lab in addition to assay and test preparations.

Nutrition and Health Assessment Laboratory
The Louisiana State University Agricultural Center commitment to strengthening research, teaching, and outreach education to improve nutrition and health created a Nutrition and Health Assessment Laboratory (NHAL) with the School of Human Ecology as the lead unit. The recently completed 2808 sq ft renovations in Knapp Hall on the LSU campus provides office and lab space. The lab will be used for applied research studies, including nutrition assessment and analysis, and for demonstrations to prepare Extension agents and paraprofessionals, undergraduate students, and graduate students in nutritional assessment and outreach in community nutrition and wellness education. The LSU System supported the establishment of NHAL by awarding the AgCenter funds to purchase a DEXA (dual-energy x-ray absorptiometer), a PIXI (peripheral instantaneous x-ray imager for bone densitometry), multi-frequency bioelectric impedance analyzer (BIA), eight desktop computers, two laptop computers, a color laser printer, a metabolic cart, ten activity monitors, two electrical beds, an ice maker, an explosion proof refrigerator/freezer, and an ultra low freezer. Other equipment on hand includes a centrifuge, an incubator, and a Hewlett Packard capillary electrophoresis system, a stomacher for digestion of foods, and some basic laboratory supplies and equipment.
