The School of Human Ecology is located on the Louisiana State University Campus. LSU
ranks in the top 2 percent of the nation's colleges and universities, holding a prominent position
in higher education. It is also considered one of the world's finest teaching and research institutions.
More than 24,000 undergraduate students are enrolled at the University, with a total of almost 30,000
students enrolled any given semester. The LSU Campus, called a "botanical joy" in its listing
among the 20 best campuses in the nation by Thomas Gaines' The Campus as a Work of Art, is located in the
southern part of the city of Baton Rouge. The city is bordered on the west by the Mississippi River. Baton Rouge
is also the capital of Louisiana and is a leading petrochemical, financial, and industrial city with a
metropolitan area population of more than 500,000.
